The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has reduced pump prices for diesel, kerosene and Jet-A1 fuel, while keeping the price of petrol unchanged at MWK5,619 per litre.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 31, 2026, and signed by MERA Board Chairperson Lucas Kondowe, the regulator announced that the new prices will take effect on August 1, 2026.

Diesel will now retail at MWK5,863 per litre, down from MWK6,306, representing a 7.02% decrease. Kerosene has been reduced to MWK4,389 per litre from MWK4,771, an 8% drop.

MERA said the price adjustments follow the Energy Pricing Committee’s (EPC) monthly review under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM).

According to the regulator, the average Free on Board (FOB) prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene have declined since the last fuel price review on June 19, 2026, prompting the latest adjustments.

Jet-A1 fuel prices have also been reduced. At Kamuzu International Airport (KIA), the price has fallen to MWK4,577 per litre from MWK4,870, a 6% decrease. At Bakili Muluzi International Airport (BMIA), the price has dropped to MWK4,496 per litre from MWK4,733, representing a 5% reduction.

“Under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), Jet A-1 qualified for a downward price revision at both airports because the decreases in their In-bond Landed Costs (IBLCs) were outside the ±5% trigger band,” the statement said.

MERA added that average FOB prices for Jet A-1 declined in July compared with June 2026, supporting the reduction.

The regulator said it will continue monitoring developments in global petroleum markets, noting that the ongoing geopolitical conflict in the Middle East continues to influence international fuel prices and supply chain costs.
