Police officers will soon work in cleaner environments following a partnership between Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust and the Malawi Police Women Welfare Association.
The two organizations on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Lilongwe aimed at improving sanitation and hygiene in police stations and surrounding areas.
BEAM Trust Board Chairperson Dingiswayo Jere said the initiative recognizes the sacrifices of police officers.
“Our men and women in uniform do a great job protecting this country. The least we can do is ensure they have clean and healthy workspaces. A clean environment also helps them serve the public better,” Jere said.
In her remarks, Rhoda Luhanga, wife to the Inspector General and Patron of the Police Women Welfare Association, hailed the partnership as timely.
“We are ready to work with BEAM Trust. Our members are on the ground in almost every station and we will ensure this initiative reaches every corner of the country,” she said.
Through the partnership, BEAM and the police association intend to roll out waste management systems, hygiene education, and periodic clean-up exercises in police facilities nationwide.
