Two-day swearing-in ceremony set for October 27–28; orientation program to prepare MPs for new parliamentary term.

The swearing-in of newly elected members of Malawi’s Parliament for the 2025–2030 term willtake place over two days later this month, the Clerk of Parliament announced Friday.
In a statement, Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba said the ceremony will be held in theParliament Chamber in Lilongwe from Monday, October 27 to Tuesday, October 28.
“The Members-elect will be communicated about the specific day and time each one isexpected to take the oath,” Kalemba said.
Before the official ceremony, incoming legislators will participate in a week-long orientation workshop titled “From Election to Action: Empowering Parliamentarians for Impactful Legislation, Governance, and Transformative Leadership.
”The program, designed to strengthen lawmakers’ understanding of their core constitutional roles of legislation, oversight, and representation, will run from October 20 to 24 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Malawians went to the polls on September 16, 2025, to elect the president, members of parliament, and local councillors. The new Parliament will comprise 229 seats, up from 193 in the previous 2019–2024 legislative term.
