The SKC Foundation, established in honour of deceased former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima, has announced it has paid school fees for 15 dependents of the five people who died alongside the Vice President in a plane crash last June.

Chilima died on June 10 last year (2024) when a plane he was travelling in from the Capital, Lilongwe to the northern city of Mzuzu crashed due to what officials said was bad weather.

All nine people on the plane were also killed in the accident.

Chilima’s widow, Mary established the foundation and launched it on what could have been the departed Vice-President’s 52nd birthday on February 12.

This week the foundation has announced it has paid a total of 12,828,300 Malawi Kwacha (approximately Seven thousand four hundred US Dollars) in school fees for the dependents, ranging from toddlers starting out in reception to young adults in university.

“We want to ensure that the tragic loss of their parents does not signal the end of their educational pursuits,” said Ms Chilima who is the Chairperson of the Foundation.

“The SKC Foundation intends to continue this support as long as funds permit,” she added.

According to Ms Chilima, the SKC Foundation seeks to fulfil the vision and goals of her late husband saying it is a duly registered trust which will be overseen by a board of trustees.
