Who We Are

Media Forum for Effective Governance is an independent project dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

We are a diverse group , coming from various backgrounds within Malawi and the Diaspora, united in our commitment to collaborate and strengthen government effectiveness and tackle the everyday challenges our fellow citizens face. For decades, government ineffectiveness has hindered meaningful socio-political and economic progress. Since the introduction of plural politics in 1994, following 30 years of single party rule after independence from Great Britain in 1964, Malawi has struggled to achieve transformative change.

Our central objective revolves around the establishment of a strong government, and we hold the view that the 2025 elections offer an important opening to elect fresh leaders who resonate with our mission to combat corruption. This menace has significantly impeded the well-being of nearly 20 million citizens in Malawi, depriving them of an inclusive society conducive to growth and prosperity. Our commitment centers on endorsing candidates, with a special emphasis on women, who exhibit unwavering honesty and champion the battle against corruption, manifest in diverse manifestations.

The Media Forum for Effective Governance, also known as The Forum, is a non-violent resistance collective dedicated to promoting honesty, transparency, and responsibility within all public sectors. We are acutely aware of the daunting challenges faced by Malawians, the majority of whom struggle to survive on less than $2.00 a day.

Our firm determination drives us to confront these issues head-on, with a steadfast commitment to fostering progress and instigating positive change. As the esteemed educator Frederick Douglass once wisely stated, “If there’s no struggle, there’s no progress.” This principle serves as the bedrock of our initiative, as we firmly believe that

meaningful progress can be attained through challenging impunity and advocating for a leadership that is accountable and responsive to the needs of its citizens.

The Forum’s ultimate aim is to usher in a new era characterized by an effective and compassionate government that is dedicated to serving its people.
