Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) says now that the official campaign period for the September 16 Tripartite Elections has been launched, it is now open to offering coverage to opposition political parties.
A statement from MBC says the publicly funded media house is inviting all political parties participating in the elections — people will simultaneously vote for president, members of parliament and local councillors — to share their campaign schedules and activities for possible coverage across its various media platforms.
“Parties are encouraged to submit their campaign messages for broadcast consideration. This will ensure timely processing and scheduling during the official campaign period,” the statement published on the corporation’s various social media platforms said.
MBC has been roundly criticized by various stakeholders for its lack of professionalism and bias in favour of the country’s president Lazarus Chakwera and his Malawi Congress Party in its coverage of political news.
